Wait you don’t need to reinstall the whole package.

Follow below steps

open cmd

navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE

run devenv.exe /setup

wait until it ends

run visual studio, it should be working now.

if not, follow all above steps and at last

run devenv /resetskippkgs

run visual studio, it should be working now.

if it still does not work, install visual studio sp1 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=27673C47-B3B5-4C67-BD99-84E525B5CE61&displaylang=en)

follow the steps mentioned above. It will work now.

Please let me know if any issue.

  1. Hi, I tried all the steps that you posted and I’m still seeing the same error. Do you know of any further steps that can be taken short of changing your user profile name?

    Thanks.

  2. Thanks for this posting. The nightmare started with trying to install VS 2008 SP1 from microsoft’s web site. Nothing like spending 8 hours fighting the software that is supposed to be a tool helping you to get some work done.

    • don’t know whether your issue is sorted or not but after installing the sp1 from microsoft site you must have to follow all the steps again

of course don’t install sp1 again 🙂 if it still does not sortout your problem.

  3. It worked, I’ve used the following procedure in windows 7.

    open cmd
    navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE
    run devenv.exe /setup

  4. It worked, I’ve used the following procedure in windows 7.
    open cmd
navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE
    run devenv.exe /setup

  5. Hi,

I recently had the same issue on a Visual Studio 2010 Premium.

After trying everything I could, I’ve found a post on a blog explaining that he fixed his issue by correcting a reference to Office Library.

My Project was having an Office reference too, and I recently installed Office 2010 on my computer.

And that worked, fixing the reference to the correct library resolved my issue.

So, don’t forget to check this possibility.

    Cheers
