Microsoft’s Xbox 360 leads US console market for fifth month

Even though the video-game console market remains up for grabs internationally, Microsoft appears to have figured things out on the home front, at least for now. The Xbox 360 recorded its fifth straight month atop the US market in October, with 325,000 units sold, according to NPD Group data cited by Microsoft today.

It’s not clear how close Sony and Nintendo were to Microsoft, because the research firm is no longer publicly releasing specific unit sales numbers for each console, leaving that up to the discretion of each company. But NPD analyst Anita Frazier noted in her monthly summary that the Xbox 360 was the only video game platform to realize a gain in unit sales in the US compared with the same month last year.
